Welcome to Conversations with Rose.
I got you this far, now let me get you as excited about this project as I am.
Firstly I should explain what this is. Simply put Conversations with Rose is a project telling the stories of 32 people who fought cancer. Yes I said the C word, but it’s really a celebration of lives. This is an opportunity to reflect on these wonderful people, and how they fought cancer with their families and friend’s support with courage, dignity and many times humour.
How will I do this?
In May 2016 I will follow the Camino Frances pilgrimage route, starting a 32 day walk from St Jean Pied de Port in France to the Santiago de Compostela in Spain. I will be dedicating one day of walking to one of these inspirational people telling their stories through Conversations with Rose. After 31 days I will dedicate my final day to my mother Rose-Mari who died of cancer in 2011. The final day when I collect the last stamp in my pilgrims passport – that day is for my mom.
In doing this I hope to raise a substantial amount of money to support the efforts of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity who help pioneer new cancer treatment that help save lives. I have created a Just Giving page for taking any donations towards the cause.
How did this project come to life?
In January 2015 after watching the film The Way, the idea of walking this route in dedication to my mother started taking shape. This idea has been growing, changing and finding its way until its launch as Conversations with Rose in January 2016. While I recognised that my mother was without a doubt one of the most fabulous woman you would ever have had the opportunity to meet in your life, she was rarely not surrounded by other equally fabulous people. It therefore made sense to invite some good company on our walk together. This, I thought, would also be the perfect opportunity to raise money for cancer research. If I can make a difference for someone else, even at a small scale, then why not do that.
So that’s the story in a nutshell.
I’ll be documenting the preparations, fundraising campaigns, lows and highs, the journey and more on this blog and associated social media accounts.
I hope you will come with me on this journey and support me in telling these stories. Like, follow, post, subscribe, donate and tell me about your Rose. Visit Get Involved to see other ways you can show your support.
